"April fools!" said reality to all the people waiting to check their computer to see if it had the Conficker worm.
The worm is an exploitation of vulnerability MS08-067, and the fact such a thing could come to be is a big problem on Microsoft's hands. All the Mac/Linux users are having a good laugh today I'm sure. Funny enough a windows/mac/linux user myself, I'm laughing at the fact NOTHING has happened.
Just to show how big of a deal this is to microsoft, here is something from wikipedia:
"As of 13 February 2009, Microsoft is offering a $250,000 USD reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals behind the creation and/or distribution of Conficker"

its now 9:10PM and conficker has been put into human hands just imagine the power a botnet has when it contains 20 percent more computers than the last doomsday worm, and we can all remember how that destroyed humanity. An estimated 12 million or more machines have been infected, however disinfection is possible so the real number is unknown.
My current ideas of what will happen:
- The hackers used today to get everyone off guard and make it look like a fail, they will then activate the system again.
- The sucsess will cause the BotNet to sucsessfully Spam mail us
