In Regards to the following clip:
http://www.abc.net.au/tv/qanda/txt/s2521164.htm----
Ive been following this situation for a good while now after being redirected to:
No clean feed
Although i strongly agree that child pornography, rape should be blocked i have a few strong points i just want to get off my chest into the eternal pit of nothingness that is cyberspace.
As soon as i got to reading that "A filter will slow Internet access down by up to
80% according to a Government report." i immediately flew out of my chair screaming, WHAT?! 80%?! Australia only just got a good Internet speed, and by good i mean
not too good and not too bad.
I followed this up more and found that the "blacklist" is going to filter more then what its original intention, a good honest worthy intention had now turned into a evil monster devouring freedom of speech and
legal content.
In the clip Conroy states that the filter has been in place for
NINE years.
Why all the fuss now?
Why does Conroy need to bring in a mandatory filter to our homes if they already have one!?
Well the only conclusion i can come to is because
the current filter system does not work and never will work. So whats the point of bringing in another virtual blanket that still wont warm the Australian public as they try to peacefully sleep.
(For those who don't get my point I'm talking about browsing the Internet without issues that are previously mentioned.)One point that i had already hammered on in a speech i made regarding the issue was also mentioned by Susan Carland, That we should use the blocked websites to capture the criminals who look at this
illegal content (As susan said "a net"). A plan that has proposed the prevention of this content has increased its view rate,
Wikileaks has published sites on the blacklist and these sites have had increasing view rates since!
One funny situation like this is the infamous dentist website that was blocked. Conroys excuse was that the website was "hacked" and so it was deemed wrong. But isn't
every website vulnerable to such things? It isn't the real publishers fault and the website was cleaned and is now properly set up and with a secure system.
Wrapping this short little rant up, the government have taken the wrong angle at solving this problem. Nothing can be hidden/Covered as easily as the government wishes to think. Stephen Conroy claims the list has been around for nine years, then why must it be mandatory? We live in a society that praises free speech, yet we live with a government and legal system that interrupts said free speech. When will the government stop? Why does the government need to treat us like children. I believe
the Internet is no place for children when a 5 year old is using the Internet to the extent of being vulnerable they are not doing what a child should be doing at that age, i first used a computer at the age of 2 but the Internet?
no i played educational video games. The government needs to get rid of this mess rather then throwing a towel on it and "getting around to it."
